The Longest Day Fundraiser – Round 1 Interview Announcements

article, Longest Day

My recording schedule has started off with a bang with three great creative women scheduled for interviews during the day.

Michaela WeissburgFirst up, Michaela Weissburg. Mickie and I briefly worked together for a start up in Los Angeles in 2015/2016. The start up was in the YouTube space, so there were a lot of people in the entertainment industry working there, as well as a lot of USC alumni. Mickie describes herself as an aspiring human trying to make it in “showbiz” in a field she was completely unaware of before she entered it.

She’s now working on the visual effects side of things, and is currently the VFX Coordinator for AMC’s Interview with a Vampire television adaptation. I plan on talking to her on what exactly a VFX coordinator does (other than making digital gnomes disappear) and what about the job attracts her.

Chivaun OldesNext is Chivaun Oldes. Chivaun and I technically work at the same organization (although she is moving to another job), but thanks to her being in Sacramento, have only actually met a couple of times. Not only does Chivaun run the geeky online store On My Sleeve Design (check out her “I’m Lisa Frank Years Old” sweatshirt, which is what drew me to talk to her in the first place).

She has recently published a children’s book dealing with anxiety, called (appropriately enough) My Anxiety Monster. So, I plan on talking to her about the origin of that idea, as well as her geeky shop and past.

Jennifer Shiman

Our last announcement is NOT someone I’ve worked with, although with full disclosure I do support her on Patreon. I learned about Jennifer Shiman many MANY years ago, when her company was called AngryAlien. She produced a series of short films in the ‘theme’ of ’30-Second Bunnies Theatre’ that got popular enough at one point that Starz was showing them. (My favorite has to be the Jaws one.)

A few years ago, she decided to walk away from the bunnies (I’m sure the bunnies were starting to become divas <g>) and start working on a middle-grade graphic novel called World’s End Detective Agency. I’ll be talking about her creative process, a little bit about the bunnies, and her current project.

I’ve got a few ‘I’m interested, but need to check my schedule’ interviews in the barrel, including cartoonist John Kovalic, actor Jon Davey (best known for Doctor Who), and writer Del Howison (who also owns and runs the Dark Delicacies horror-themed bookstore in LA).

These interviews will be broadcast on my YouTube channel, and then later edited for upload to my podcast. Stay tuned and stay geeky!
